A Day to Myself

My children are off having fun with their cousins and Joel is working.  I took advantage of this and spent a wonderful day by myself.  I awoke at 6:15 AM and was on the road by 6:45 AM.  I live in such a beautifully scenic area of Wisconsin and enjoy the scenery as I bike.  I often think to myself that I wish I could share these views with my pen pals or others who are not from this area.  So, while I was biking I was snapping pictures along the way.  Some are blurry, but hey! What do you expect!  I did stop to take the pictures of the sandhill cranes.

Here's the route I took.

A selfie of my reflection in my car window before I start my hike.

After my bike ride, I drove to Devil's Lake State Park to go for a hike.  I decided to go up the CCC trail to the East Bluff Trail, down the Balanced Rock Trail and back to the car via the Grott's Trail.  Here is the trail head.

If you zoom in you can see the trail I went on.

The trail starts with a steep climb using rocks as  steps.

Look how steep this is!

Dad, Where are you when I need you?  I don't have you to use as a good excuse to stop and rest!

more stairs!

Look how high I am already!

An attempt at a selfie

A little reprieve before going up some more.

You can see the lake in the background

I turned around so you could see the steepness of the trail

With the hardest part of the hike over I stopped to take a picture of the rock climbers.  That used to be me.

A rock outcropping that climbers like to practice lead climbing on.

A gorgeous view of Devil's Lake

All of the scenic view of the lake and the bluffs were on my left.  Here I stopped to take a picture of the forest on my right.  Just as beautiful!

Can you see the parking lot?  That's the south shore and where I would go for the rest of the day after my hike.

I zoomed in so you could see the parking lot area

Hiking back to the car on grottos trail.  You can see how high the bluff is.

Can you see the climbers?

Whew!  I did it!  Back at the car!

I am sitting under a tree at the south shore.  Here is a view looking out onto the lake and at the north shore.  We normally only go to the north shore

Being the 4th of July weekend, it was extremely busy. These two photos are to show you how many people were there.

I sat and knitted for 4 hours.  Here's the sock I finished while there.

After having dinner with my parents in Madison for my Dad's 73rd birthday I went back home, met up with some friends and went to Fire on the River, Prairie Du Sac's fireworks.   Look how busy it is!

A picture of me.  My friend requested not to have her photo posted.

Just showing how crowded it is.

Let the show begin!

I hope you enjoyed my photos of my day by myself!
